24-7 Prayer is an international, interdenominational prayer movement, with a vision to revive the church and rewire the culture through non-stop night and day prayer.
We have worked with 24-7 for over 20 years, initially creating their website and more recently building the Lectio 365 app, which is a free daily devotional resource which helps you pray the bible.
Due to the Lectio 365 app being an international success, 24-7 decided to diversify the Lectio brand and approached us to create the Lectio for Families app. This had to have the feel of the initial app but be more tailored to enable the whole family to engage in reading the bible and explore faith through conversation and prayer.
The app needed to have the proper functionality to enable the user's experience to flow, and included an obvious pause, forward and rewind function, the potential to download individual devotions and the ability to view video via Vimeo.
The 24-7prayer team also needed the app to have an admin area that was as simple to use as possible. They wanted to have the ability to add up to 7 tabs on a devotion, the option to choose different style buttons and ensure the content was as bespoke as possible.
We needed to ensure that the app was consistent with the other Lectio app but was also distinctive, with well-thought-out functionality to engage a younger audience. It needed to be able to function in similar ways behind the scenes to Lectio 365 but also be independent where necessary.
We also had to enable the admin team to be able to adapt the views and content easily but still ensure that it worked well visually.
The app needed to be robust and work for people all over the world on both iOS and Android.
We created an app that has the familiarity of Lectio 365 but is distinct and family friendly. The larger Play/Pause button and the ability to fast-forward and rewind enabled even the youngest user to access the devotional. We added a more obvious scroll bar to make it easier to see where you were on the page.
In the admin area we created the ability to change the number of tabs available in each devotion and the look and size of the buttons. We made it as easy as possible for the admin team to add content and change the individual items in each devotion.
When downloading the app we introduced a video that families could watch before using the app as a way of introduction. We were also able to ensure the rating was 4+ in the app stores to enable the content to be available to a wider audience.
The solution also uses a high availability API service to push up-to-date content to the app. This was also developed and hosted by our team.
Together with Lectio365 this family of apps is used by 100,000's of users every day from countries all over the world including South Africa, USA and Germany.
